This program is designed for adults who want to learn the sport of rowing – no experience is necessary! Athletes will start on the rowing machine and learn basics of the stroke, then move to the water under the guidance of the Skidmore College Rowing Staff.  Should you want to continue and row with our Community Rowing adult team, this program sets you up to transition into the session which begins June 5 (see below).

Program Information

Skidmore Community Rowing provides a low pressure, fitness based approach to rowing.  Using a semi-structured approach to training, athletes will meet with a coach prior to practice, be given a technical emphasis, and get on the water to watch the sunrise while working on their technique and base fitness.

The program will be primarily a sculling program, with the occasional opportunity to sweep row.  In the first month of the season, athletes of all skills and abilities will be mixed together, as to help integrate the newer athletes to the program.  By July, boatings will be made by skill and ability, allowing more experienced athletes the opportunity to train with like-skilled athletes while novice athletes continue to work on technique.
